This summer the Guardians are actively engaged in trying to protect our community from the challenges of urban sprawl.
With a decision allowing requests for amendments to the County’s Comprehensive Growth Management Plan (Comp Plan) to be submitted and reviewed at any time (rather than twice a year), the result is a significant increase in the number of applications for development.
Some of the requested Comp Plan changes include expansion of the Urban Services boundary, zoning changes and density increases. Requests to extend water and sewer lines can be costly to taxpayers.
Martin County is presently evaluating requests to increase the intensity of development on more than 15 tracts that cross the threshold requiring Comp Plan changes. The location and approximate size of most of these proposed developments are shown in RED on the map below as an overlay on the County’s Urban Services District’s figure.
The size of the properties and a brief description of what is proposed can be viewed on the PDF listed below:
Guardians’ representatives have met with project proponents for two of the projects: Winemiller Farms and Christ Fellowship Church. Summaries of our meetings, which include more information about these projects, are posted on our website:

The Guardians will continue to monitor these development projects and keep you informed of their status in the months ahead.
