The Ocean Research & Conservation Association plans to raise $6 million in hopes of doing what no one else has done for the Indian River Lagoon: Map pollution and show what it consists of for the waterway’s entire length.  ORCA plans to take 50,000 sediment samples, track pollutants with 50 movable Kilroys, and post results — with colorful maps showing where pollutants are streaming into the waterway — on its website within three years.

ORCA plans to raise money through grants, private donations and funding requests to local, state and federal agencies and governments. The goal is to raise $1.3 million from each of the counties involved: Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Brevard.
