Letter to Florida’s new DEP Chief about the Indian River Lagoon

The editorial board of Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers believes it is important for Florida’s new DEP Chief  to know the issues confronting the Indian River Lagoon and the commitment of people in our region to restore, protect and preserve this valuable natural resource.

Dear Mr. Steverson,

Congratulations on your appointment to lead the state Department of Environmental Protection — the agency tasked with ensuring the quality and quantity of our state’s water resources.

Our editorial board would like to draw your attention to one particular region of the Sunshine State: the Treasure Coast.

Though different in character and population, the three counties in our region — Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie — are indelibly linked by the Indian River Lagoon.
