MORE CROWDED: Florida is now the third most-populated state in the nation.
We’re all for the concept of progress and growth, but not when state government isn’t prepared to deal with such a fast-rising increase in residents and the needs they bring.
With 19.9 million residents, Florida has surpassed New York and trails only California (38.8 million) and Texas (27 million). With that growth comes new strains on education, health care, natural resources, social services, roads and other infrastructure.
Population growth alone is not a laudable achievement.
