A grass roots group calling itself “Florida NOT All Aboard” has launched a website and is circulating a petition in an effort to stop the trains from snarling traffic and tying up drawbridges in the cities it bypasses, including Stuart, Fort Pierce and Vero Beach.

Two questions arise when I talk to locals about All Aboard Florida, the passenger rail service that aims to zoom past our Treasure Coast towns 32 times a day as it shuttles travelers between Miami and Orlando.

1. Is this for real?

2. Is there anything we can do to stop it?
