In their first week, Brightline trains killed two people and injured a third. This is unacceptable. Brightline service should be suspended before more people die.
At the same time, we need to challenge the Brightline plans to expand its service from Miami to Orlando. These trains will then pass through hundreds of at-grade crossings daily exposing thousands of Florida residents to the same potentially fatal dangers the recent victims faced.
No wonder Senators Nelson and Rubio and Congressman Mast have called for Federal investigations into Brightline’s safety program. And, State Senator Debbie Mayfield and Representative Erin Grall have introduced legislation to increase safety at grade crossings and ensure that Brightline, not taxpayers, pay for these safety improvements.
