NASA Device To Help Monitor Lake O For Algae

A “SeaPRISM” water-monitoring device developed by NASA will soon be keeping track of algae blooms in Lake Okeechobee. NASA scientists are

partnering with FAU’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute to gather real-time data on algae levels. It’s hoped the data will enable researchers to understand why some summers see heavy algae blooms and others do not.

Weather permitting, the SeaPRISM will be deployed the week of June 11, said Jim Sullivan, Harbor Branch interim executive director and principal investigator on the project.
