June 6, 2022

Dear Commissioners and County Staff:

I am writing to follow up on my public comments, made on behalf of the Guardians, during the April 19, 2022 Commission meeting, regarding the proposed Rural Lifestyle Zoning Amendments, as they apply to the Atlantic Fields development.

Since the April 19, 2022 meeting, we have received no confirmation that our points and concerns, as raised in my comments and in the Guardians’ Position Paper, have been addressed.

Following the April meeting, we had expected notifications of public workshops to engage all interested parties, with full disclosure, prior to the Commission vote. To the best of our knowledge, no public workshops have been scheduled.

We reiterate our position that Martin County citizens are entitled to explore all aspects of the proposed amendments and changes to the Comp Plan.

We also look forward to your responses to our recommendations that the BOCC create a “Comprehensive Plan Task Force” and undertake a “Martin County Environmental Initiative.”  We believe these are essential steps for the future viability and protection of our cherished “Martin County Difference.”

We understand through a public meeting notice that there will be a new hearing held on June 21, 2022 to discuss the amendments.

We are awaiting the meeting agenda to be posted confirming the opportunities for the public to fully participate in the discussion about the proposed amendments.

Thank you,

Peter H. Conze, Jr.
President
The Guardians of Martin County
