Martin County Settles Train Lawsuit

Martin County Commissioners called for an urgent meeting this morning to discuss whether to go forward with settlement, after IRC turned it down.
With a 4-1 vote, Commissioners voted to move forward. CARE FL also agreed to settle the lawsuit, in exchange for safety measures.

Lisa Broadt of Treasure Coast Newspaper reports on the settlement offer that Virgin Trains (formerly known as Brightline) made to both Indian River and Martin Counties. Martin County Commissioners voted 4-1 to accept the offer.  IRC Commissioners turned down the offer with a 4-1 vote.

Not only did Indian River commissioners turn thumbs-down on the settlement, they authorized spending another $1 million in their effort to block the railroad’s expansion from West Palm Beach to Orlando.

The settlement accepted by Martin County adds safety measures to the WPB to Orlando route.
