Guardian Board Advisor Jacqui Thurlow-Lippisch and Florida Oceanographic Society’s Mark Perry are both featured in this video produced by The Weather Channel about the 2016 Toxic Algae outbreak. Since this video was produced, a $1.6 billion dollar reservoir South of Lake Okeechobee was approved by the Army Corps of Engineers. The project is now in the hands of Congress where it’s expected to be funded as part of a water resources bill.
Scientists and state and federal water managers say the reservoir would help lessen future algae blooms in the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee waterways and on Florida’s east and west coasts.
