On March 9, 2021, The Guardians of Martin County introduced the land conservation initiative known as “The Loxa-Lucie Headwaters” to Martin County Commissioners.
This multi-year project envisions a protected ecological corridor that will connect the sources of the Loxahatchee River and St. Lucie River to form a preserve for plants and wildlife over nearly 70,000 acres.
Following the presentation and discussion among Commissioners, and the Board formally endorsed this Initiative, and asked the County Administrator to return with an Agenda Item to find funding sources to purchase properties in the Loxa-Lucie Headwaters.
