Lake O Reservoir May Fall Short Of Goals

Note: Almost 1 week after discharges began from Lake Okeechobee, algae is spotted around Stuart. The reservoir is needed more than ever.

The Army Corps of Engineers calls the design for the reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee “feasible,” but says the project may not meet its goal of cleaning water to be sent to the Everglades.

The reservoir design proposed by the South Florida Water Management District also doesn’t meet the Corps’ safety requirements for “potential failure mode and life loss consequence analysis” and may be more expensive than estimated, the report states.
