Indian River County has filed a lawsuit against Virgin Trains/Brightline, claiming it should not have to pay for the maintenance and 
upgrading of the crossings in preparation for the high-speed passenger trains. Virgin Trains says its service to Orlando will begin in 2022. Up to 32 daily trains will travel through 21 crossings in I.R.C. at speeds of 110 miles per hour.
The county says its agreements for railroad maintenance are with East Coast Railway – not Virgin Trains and therefore should not be held responsible.
