Florida Gov.-Elect DeSantis spent Monday at the White House, along with other Governors-Elect in an introductory session with President Trump. DeSantis thanked the President for his support of the EAA Reservoir that has been approved to be built but still lacks funding.  DeSantis told the President, “We’d like to be able to speed some of this up with the Army Corps. I know you’ll be supportive of that. And you’ve been real supportive of Florida. So thank you.”

The President acknowledged that getting the reservoir built to help curb the Lake Okeechobee discharges and recent algae blooms has been going on too long. The President gave his assurances that they would get the project done.

This is a significant development in light of South Florida Water Management District’s decision to lease land on the proposed EAA reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee to a subsidiary of Florida Crystals pending construction of the project.  Congressman Brian Mast has called for the resignation of SFWMD’s board members in light of this last minute move.
