Please support Comp Plan Amendments 13-6, 13-7, 13-8 and 13-9 which will be considered by the Martin County Board of County Commissioners at Tuesday’s commission meeting.
Items 6A, 6B, 6C and 6D request adoption of amendments to the Comp Plan which add a level of service for open space and conservation land (CPA 13-6), update Chapter 5 (transportation element) to be consistent with the most recent approved Martin County airport master plan (CPA 13-8), amend Chapters 8 (coastal management) and 9 (conservation and open space) to restore shoreline and wetlands protections that were eroded by the 2009 Future Group re-write of our Plan (CPA 13-7) and revise the Economic Element and other chapters of the Plan to ensure consistency with earlier approved amendments (CPA 13-9).
The amendments were previously approved by the Commission and were transmitted to the state planning agency (the Department of Economic Opportunity) for review. No objections were made by state reviewers, although some comments were offered that have been addressed in amendments the Commission is being asked to adopt on Tuesday.
This is the final adoption hearing for Comp Plan Amendments approved in 2013. The first set of amendments that were adopted earlier this year have been challenged by King Ranch, Hobe Grove, the Lake Point rock pit operators and developers who object to Comp Plan provisions that preserve our quality of life and the Martin County difference.
This last set of amendments reflect continuing efforts by the new Commission majority to restore protections for natural resources — including the St. Lucie Estuary and the Indian River Lagoon — that were removed or restricted under the old majority.
Please take a minute to let our Commissioners know that you support the amendments and appreciate their commitment to protecting existing neighborhoods, preserving natural resources, and assisting local businesses and taxpayers by promoting fiscally responsible economic and land development.
Ask Commissioners to adopt Comp Plan Amendments 13-6, 13-7, 13-8 and 13-9 on Tuesday.
