Commissioner Anne Scott made a motion to remove the Jensen Beach Mooring Field from the Martin County Capital Improvements Plan today, and the motion passed on a 3-1 vote, with Commissioner Doug Smith dissenting.
Commissioner Fielding, who has expressed opposition to the mooring field project in the past, was absent. Commissioners John Haddox and Sarah Heard supported Commissioner Scott’s motion to remove the project from the CIP.
Please let commissioners Haddox, Scott and Heard know that you appreciate their concern for the aquatic preserve and the many residents of Jensen Beach who are opposed to the ill-conceived mooring field project.
Commissioner Smith attempted to portray opposition as a “personal” vendetta against all of Jensen Beach and insulted the other commissioners by suggesting that they are elitists who would not tolerate the situation in their communities where derelict vessels destroy “the view” from the shore.
Commissioners Haddox and Scott rejected Commissioner Smith’s outrageous allegations and said they could not support a project that will require the County to absorb unknown operating and maintenance costs in the future and which violates the Boat Facility Siting Plan that was previously adopted.
