Brightline Headed from Tampa to Orlando?

From Treasure Coast Newspapers:Brightline Train North Miami

Brightline wants to run its high-speed passenger train from Orlando to Tampa.  So far, it’s the only company submitting a proposal to lease the land between the two cities, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

Brightline already has plans to extend its service from West Palm Beach to Orlando by 2021.

In its proposal, the railroad said trains likely would run from its hub at Orlando International Airport, along portions of State Road 528, I-4 and State Road 417 to a new station in downtown Tampa.

Brightline’s Orlando-to-Tampa bid now will be evaluated by a technical-review committee and a project-selection committee. Both are comprised of officials from the Department of Transportation and the Central Florida Expressway Authority, which owns the rights of way along the interstate.

The selection committee is to post its decision by 4 p.m. Nov. 28.
