Brian Mast Calls For SFWMD Resignations

Story by Tyler Treadway, Treasure Coast Newspapers

U.S. Rep. Brian Mast said South Florida Water Management District board members should resign, but it’s unclear what Gov.-Elect Ron DeSantis plans to do, if anything.

Mast said board members “have been derelict in their duties, and I think they should be replaced” because they agreed to lease land for the EAA reservoir to cut to a Florida Crystals subsidiary.

The comments come from the Miami show, “Facing South Florida”. You can watch the episode here.

The decision came after the lease was added to the board agenda about 9 p.m. Nov. 7, 12 hours before the meeting began at 9:30 a.m. the next day.

Critics say the deal favors SFWMD. The district says it can get out of the lease in two years.

President Trump & Congress have approved the 16,000 acre reservoir, but money to pay for it hasn’t been appropriated.

The reservoir will eventually help curb discharges from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie River.
