Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Guardians of Martin County, Inc, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, is to educate the residents of Martin County on environmental issues which are impacting their quality of life.

The Guardians is a nonpartisan organization which supports the current Comprehensive Growth Management Plan of Martin County. This plan provides a controlled growth approach to development within the urban services boundary of the County.

We seek to preserve the high quality of environmentally sensitive lands outside this boundary. In this preservation effort, special attention will be given to storm water run-off as it affects Martin County's wetlands, water table, ponds, streams, rivers and indigenous wildlife, both inside and outside this urban boundary.

We support other organizations that have similar missions and standards of value.

In this context, we foster and encourage policies and actions taken by our County government that are characterized by fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency.

Our Impact

Television commercials, newspaper ads, newspaper articles and columns, DVDs, and an interactive website are all part of the Guardians strength in Martin County.

One of the reasons for the great increase of the Guardians influence has been our clip-and-send ads, printed in the Palm Beach Post and the Stuart News.

Thousands of Martin County residents sent responses to county commissioners and state officials.

At one point during a recent issue-driven campaign, the Martin County administrator talked about needing extra help to tabulate the responses to Guardians ads.

The Guardians are working to keep our county a great place to live, and with your help we will continue doing so for years to come.
