The Benefits of Small Wetlands

The Comprehensive Plan Amendment to weaken protection for little wetlands is coming before the Martin County Commission on Tuesday, April 25th.  The agenda item is comprehensive plan amendment 17-07.

The Martin County Local Planning Agency (LPA) voted 3 to 1 to reject the comp amendment that would allow the destruction of small wetlands. The proposal now goes before County Commissioners for a vote. 

The Guardians of Martin County with Wetlands expert Greg Braun and Dr. Valerie C. Clark, Professor of Ecology, present the following position paper on the value of small wetlands.

The primary purpose of this paper is to provide detailed scientific information regarding the benefits and functions of small urban wetlands in Martin County, so that decision makers and others have facts upon which to base decisions regarding protection of wetlands.
