Indiantown: Its Future Could be bright but big Investments Needed

By Lisa Broadt, TCPALM

This community of 6,000 has enormous development potential — it could be anything from an industrial center to a mecca for gastro tourism — but will not grow without infrastructure improvements, local leaders said Wednesday.

“There’s a lot of Indiantowns in Florida,” said Richard Machek, state director of United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development. “You can be the shining star for all the small communities in the state. However, you need to narrow your wish list.”

Figuring out a vision for Indiantown — and the financial and practical steps needed to get there — was the subject when Machek and about 50 other government officials, community leaders and USDA representatives gathered at the Seminole Inn.

Prioritizing projects is key for Indiantown, said County Commissioner Anne Scott.

“Stimulating growth is about knowing what your best avenue to success is,” said Scott after the meeting. “Indiantown could become so many things. One thing (needed) is to focus.”
