Indian River Medical Center CEO: AAF Threatens Healthy and Safety of IRC Residents

In a letter to All Aboard Florida, Indian River Medical Center’s CEO calls the current plans for AAF are “simply not acceptable without addressing the adverse impact on health for the people living in Indian River County.IRCMC

Jeffrey Susi calls for the complete abandonment of the project as “the simplest solution” but says other options would be to build multiple overpasses to allow uninterrupted train travel or move the train west of the majority of the population.

Susi is concerns emergency vehicles will be stuck at the tracks and not able to help those who need immediate care, such as heart attack victims or those having a stroke. Mr. Susi says, “In healthcare two prime examples of delays in care is related to the treatment of heart attack and stroke patients. If treatment is not delivered within 60 minutes, for a heart patient, heart muscle dies. In the case of stroke patients, care in needed with 180 minutes or permanent damage can occur. Every minute counts.”
