Ginny and Howard’s blog – Please urge support of our Comprehensive Plan Amendments!

Last week, Martin County transmitted the Comprehensive Plan Amendments that were adopted by the BOCC to the Department of Economic Opportunity for final review.

The Amendments were adopted on August 13, 2013.

The County must transmit the adopted Amendments to Tallahassee within 10 days of adoption. The Amendments were transmitted on August 20, 2013.

The Department of Economic Opportunity has five days after receipt of the package to notify the County if the transmittal packet is complete or whether additional materials must be submitted.

Once the packet is complete, the DEO has 45 days to review the Amendments and issue a Notice of Intent to find them in compliance or not in compliance with state law. The Notice of Intent must be posted on the DEO website.

Any “affected person” may file a petition with the Division of Administrative Hearings to challenge the Amendments within 30 days of adoption by the BOCC (by September 12, 2013).

If the DEO finds the Amendments in compliance and if no petition is filed within 30 days of adoption, the Amendments become law when the Notice of Intent is posted on the DEO website.

Please let the reviewing agencies know that we support approval of the adopted Comp Plan Amendments, including Amendment 13-5 which restores overall goals and policies that protect our neighborhoods, preserve our environment, strengthen our economy and maintain the Martin County difference.

You can send a brief e-mail, fax or letter to the reviewing agencies listed below, telling them that you support adopted Martin County Comprehensive Plan Amendment – MRT No. 13-1 ESR – and encourage a finding of compliance with all state statutes and requirements.
